Fresh reports have emerged that Prince Harry is considering spending six months of the year in the UK in a bid to take on a new royal role, but his wife Meghan is reluctant for him to return without her.
According to Mirror, Royal expert Katie Nicholl claims Harry was “shocked and upset” to learn about his father Prince Charles’ recent cancer diagnosis and is looking for ways to be more involved with family matters and support the Queen. However, sources say Meghan is strongly against the idea of Harry spending half the year apart from her and their children.

“Harry is still very committed to his royal duties and he was shocked and upset to learn about his father’s diagnosis,” Nicholl explained. “He wants to spend time with his father as well as continue his mother’s legacy. But Meghan isn't keen on the idea and doesn’t want him to return without the family.”
There are said to be ongoing discussions within the Palace about creating a new role for Harry that would allow him to support his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II as she continues to delegate additional responsibilities.
“Harry is looking at spending three to six months of the year in Britain,” said one royal insider. “There are discussions in the early stages but Meghan doesn't want to separate the family.”

Since stepping down as senior working royals and moving to California in 2020, Harry and Meghan have only returned to the UK together once. But Harry made a solo trip back last year for the July 1 unveiling of a statue of his late mother, Princess Diana.
Royal watchers believe his sense of family duty will continue trying to pull Harry back to Britain regularly, even if his wife and children remain in Montecito.
“Harry is still committed to his military work and preserving his mother’s legacy. He will always want to support the Queen - but he won't come back permanently,” said veteran royal correspondent Phil Dampier.

“I can certainly see him spending more time in the UK in the next few years, trying to rebuild some bridges and possibly taking on a bigger royal role.”
Mr Dampier said the Queen’s decision to allow Camilla to become Queen Consort when Charles ascends the throne had given Harry some reassurance that his stepmother will not be airbrushed out of history.
“Harry appears to have calmed down a bit over the last year or so and doesn’t seem to see everything the royals do in such a bad light,” Mr Dampier added.
“But Meghan rules the roost in Montecito. She is the one making the decisions and I cannot see her moving back to the UK.”
The Duchess of Sussex remains deeply scarred by her experience as a working royal before she and Harry sensationally quit royal life during the Megxit crisis of 2020.
“Meghan suffered tremendously from the endless tabloid attacks and invasions of privacy when she was a senior royal,” said royal author Penny Junor.
“She found the whole experience incredibly traumatic and she will stand firm against letting history repeat itself by allowing any long-term separation from Harry.”
As the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations draw closer, all eyes will be on whether Harry and Meghan decide to join the festivities with their young children Archie and Lilibet next June.

But there is a growing expectation that while Harry will almost certainly return to honour the monarch’s 70 years on the throne, he will do so alone while his family stay behind in California.
“Harry is still very emotionally invested in the Institution of the Monarchy, unlike Meghan,” said Ms Junor.
“She is the one wearing the trousers in their marriage. And she will veto any suggestion of Harry splitting his time between the UK and US. Their family comes first.”
So while Harry’s heart may still remain devoted to royal duty, it appears his wife will continue ensuring it is their new life overseas that dominates the Prince's priorities.
