London, May 23, 2024 - King Charles III and Prince William have reportedly engaged in lengthy discussions about the possibility of stripping Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their royal titles, according to royal author and expert Tom Quinn. However, the monarch and heir apparent are said to be "terrified" that such a move could backfire and exacerbate the already strained relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Quinn revealed that the last thing the King and Prince of Wales want is to provide the "renegade royals" with another reason to complain. He stated, "William and his father know that even without their Royal titles Meghan and Harry would carry on travelling the world as if they were royals and most people in the world will still welcome them."

The discussions come in the wake of Harry and Meghan's recent unofficial royal tour of Nigeria, where they were greeted with dances, receptions, and visits to schools and charities. The couple, who stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, proudly displayed their Duke and Duchess titles during the trip, much to the chagrin of the royal family.
Quinn suggested that the Nigerian tour confirmed the worst fears of Harry's family, leaving Prince William "absolutely furious" and King Charles "angrier than anyone has ever seen him." The expert added that the couple's actions were a clear indication that they had "gone rogue" and were refusing to accept their status as non-working royals.

Despite the growing tensions, the King and Prince William are hesitant to take action against Harry and Meghan, fearing that it could further damage their already fragile relationship. The royal family is also concerned about the potential public backlash that could result from stripping the Sussexes of their titles.
When Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles in 2020, they retained their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles but were no longer addressed as His or Her Royal Highness. Harry also relinquished his military titles as part of the agreement.

The couple's recent relaunch of their website, Sussex.com, which prominently features their royal titles and a coat of arms, has further solidified their association with the royal family. The website includes news about their activities, such as their recent Nigeria trip, and short descriptions of their credentials.

As the rift between the Sussexes and the royal family continues to deepen, it remains to be seen whether King Charles and Prince William will take action regarding Harry and Meghan's titles. For now, it appears that the fear of potential repercussions is preventing the monarch and heir apparent from making any drastic decisions.
