Meghan Markle has reportedly been described as "fun and mentally disturbed" by a Kensington Palace courtier who claimed that most other staff thought she was a "complete narcissist and sociopath" when she first joined the royal family, according to a new book called "Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors" by English journalist Tom Bower.

While the Duchess of Sussex left the royal family in 2020, there have been numerous reports and allegations made since then by royal sources and palace staff regarding her alleged bullying behavior during her time as a working member of the monarchy. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have repeatedly and strongly denied any bullying allegations.

One such allegation was uncovered in British author Robert Lacey's book "Battle of Brothers" which was published in 2020. According to Lacey, a senior palace aide said that while Meghan portrayed herself as the victim, she was actually the bully. The royal aide is quoted as saying "Meghan portrayed herself as the victim, but she was the bully. People felt that she had been challenging their authority and didn't like it. They thought she was a complete narcissist and sociopath and these allegations were just starting to emerge at the time."

Just days before Prince Harry and Meghan's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, allegations about Meghan bullying palace staff members were leaked to The Times newspaper in the UK. An email from October 2018 was uncovered, sent by Jason Knauf who was then serving as communications secretary for both the Prince of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In the email to Simon Case, then private secretary to Prince William, Knauf reportedly stated that he was "very concerned that the Duchess was able to bully two personal assistants out of the household in the past year."

However, Prince Harry and Meghan have strongly denied any bullying took place. A spokesperson for the couple said “The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma. She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”

But the bullying allegations and leaked email came at a sensitive time, just days before Harry and Meghan's highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey was set to air. In that interview, the couple made several bombshell claims about racial issues within the royal family and a lack of support from Buckingham Palace during Meghan's struggles with her mental health as a royal.

Many observers believe the leaked bullying allegations were an attempt by palace aides to undermine Meghan and damage her reputation just before she and Harry publicly spoke out about their negative experiences as senior working royals. As the couple's spokesperson stated, it seems unlikely to be a coincidence that these long-buried accusations suddenly surfaced right when Meghan and Harry were speaking openly about the monarchy for the first time since stepping back from their duties.

Some royal experts argue that relations between the Sussexes and other parts of the royal family, particularly the households of Prince William and Prince Charles, have been tense for some time due to alleged disagreements over issues like media relations, finances, and Harry and Meghan's desire to have a more independent role. Therefore, sources argue it's plausible that damaging information may have been deliberately leaked in retaliation for Harry and Meghan's criticisms of the monarchy.

However, others point out these bullying claims had in fact been reported to palace officials as far back as 2018, so their re-emergence does not necessarily mean they were part of a coordinated smear campaign. Ultimately, without conclusive evidence, the true motives behind the leaking of the bullying email remain unclear and subject to ongoing speculation and debate among royal watchers worldwide.

The controversy over the bullying accusations continues to be a source of bitter tensions between Harry, Meghan and the rest of the royal family. During their shocking CBS interview in March 2021, Meghan tearfully denied ever hurting anyone and said she was the victim of a calculated smear campaign. However, Buckingham Palace later announced it would launch an investigation into claims that Meghan bullied palace staffers.

For now, relations seem irreparably damaged, with Harry telling Oprah he feels let down by his father Prince Charles and saying his brother is "trapped" in the royal system. He and Meghan have since relocated to California with their son Archie, pursuing financial and personal independence from the monarchy through various commercial ventures. Only time will tell if these deep divisions within the House of Windsor can ever be healed.

This has been a recap of the ongoing saga surrounding allegations that Meghan Markle bullied royal aides during her time as a working member of the British royal family. As more books continue to be published exploring the Sussexes’ break from the monarchy, this story is sure to develop further with both sides continuing to dispute each other's version of events.
