After months away from the public eye, leaving the people of the UK and her global followers uncertain about her health, Katherine Middleton reappeared in a heartwarming family video released earlier this week. The statement was accompanied by an emotional family video filmed at Anmer Hall, their Norfolk retreat where the family has found normality during this difficult time.
Anmer Hall is a country house built in 1802. The property has 10 rooms spread over three floors and covers 20,000 acres in the English countryside. In the video, the family can be seen enjoying long walks through the extensive wheat fields and forests surrounding the estate, located just a five-minute drive from Sandringham. Thanks to this recent publication, we have been able to glimpse some of the interior spaces of the house. The images offer an intimate look at their home, revealing a bright environment characterized by large windows and decorations that reflect a cozy country style. One wall is painted a warm dark yellow and houses decorative plates, while the other features rustic furnishings displaying framed photographs of the family and plants that add a natural touch.

The family dining room boasts a welcoming Bohemian vibe, decked out with tropical plants, scalloped lampshades, and chic cream curtains that allow light to flood the family space. As the family plays cards and shares a burst of competitive laughter with each other, Katherine and William's collection of trinkets can be seen on a console table in the background. Family photographs, wicker baskets, and artsy vases are among the items decorating the space, as well as rattan lampshades and ornate plates adorning the wall.
In addition to its interior amenities, the property features a swimming pool, tennis court, and a winter garden, as well as a contemporary kitchen. Anmer Hall was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. In 2015, the couple undertook a renovation costing more than $1 million to adapt the home to their family's needs.

Royal renovations do not come cheap, and unfortunately many of the costs are shouldered by taxpayers. Some of the work done on homes for the likes of the King and Queen, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales, has amounted to eye-watering sums. When projects are funded through the Sovereign Grant, the amount spent is made public knowledge. William and Katherine have spent a staggering £4.5 million on renovating their Kensington home over two years, including removing asbestos and repairing the roof. However, the Prince and Princess also used their own money. They paid privately for a second family kitchen as the main kitchen is used for working and hosting official events.
While they now officially reside at Windsor, the Wellesses have continued returning to Anmer Hall, a place that symbolizes the beginning of their life as a family and has been a significant retreat during their personal journey. Meanwhile, the Princess's parents, Carol and Michael Middleton, own a pretty impressive countryside mansion in Berkshire where they raised Katherine and her younger siblings, Pippa and James. The £4.7 million childhood home of Prince William's wife is stunning, making it hard to choose a favorite feature. However, the Middletons' matriarch revealed in an interview with Good Housekeeping that she has a soft spot for her country-chic kitchen.

"It's a kitchen, dining room, sitting room - it's the heart of the house," said the mother of three, revealing that she also used her kitchen as a workspace during the Covid-19 pandemic. In a video shared by James Middleton in 2020, royal followers were shown a glimpse of Carol's kitchen with natural tiles and an Aga, which is said to keep the space feeling warm. However, it appears the kitchen isn't just a functional room in the house for Catherine's mother. "I love a kitchen supper where I have a small number of guests. I'll cook something delicious and make it look lovely, then we'll finish with a kitchen disco," she said. A love of spending time in the kitchen is something her daughter has inherited. In 2021, a video was shared on Instagram of the Princess baking with her three children ahead of a Platinum Jubilee street party.
