Harry and Meghan are reportedly hoping for a private meeting with William and Catherine, with just the four of them sitting down face-to-face for the first time in years. According to reports, Meghan is even prepared to leave old disagreements outside the room if that means Harry can finally rebuild his relationship with his brother. But on William and Catherine’s side, the response appears far less welcoming. Sources claim William has no interest in reopening the relationship and would rather see the Sussexes return to California sooner rather than later. So what exactly are Harry and Meghan proposing, why has William reportedly become even more frustrated, and when was the last time the famous four were actually seen together?
According to a report in Heat magazine, Harry and Meghan believe the time has come for what they describe as a new family summit. The idea is simple: bring Harry, Meghan, William and Catherine together privately and allow them to speak honestly without advisers, cameras or other members of the family present. One source claimed Harry genuinely wants to repair the relationship with his brother, while Meghan is supposedly willing to compromise. Most notably, she is reportedly prepared not to revisit her previous disagreements with Catherine.

If accurate, that would represent a major change from the past. Meghan was once portrayed as being at the heart of tensions between the two couples. Now, according to these reports, she is supposedly willing to put those issues aside because she wants Harry and William to reconnect.
But the response attributed to William and Catherine is considerably colder. Reports claim the Prince and Princess of Wales have little interest in such a meeting and believe another confrontation would achieve nothing. One source speaking to Closer magazine went even further, claiming William wants Harry and Meghan to leave Britain and return to California. The source allegedly believes their current life in Britain will not last and that the Sussexes could eventually return to Montecito.
None of these claims have been confirmed by William, Catherine, Harry or Meghan, and Kensington Palace has not publicly endorsed the reports. Still, the timing has attracted attention because Harry and Meghan reportedly moved back to Britain in August, settling in the Cotswolds while their children attend school in England. On paper, the brothers are now geographically closer than they have been since Harry stepped away from royal duties in 2020. Yet despite that proximity, there has reportedly been no reunion between them.
One reason for the continuing tension may be an evening in September. On September 22, William and Catherine attended the London premiere of Tom Cruise's latest film. The couple appeared relaxed as they spoke with the Hollywood star, laughed together and eventually entered the cinema. To outside observers, it looked like a normal and successful royal engagement.

However, an American tabloid claimed Harry and Meghan interpreted the evening differently. According to its unnamed source, they allegedly believed William and Catherine were deliberately emphasizing their friendship with Tom Cruise in an attempt to upset them. The same source accused the Waleses of participating in what it described as a campaign against the Sussexes. There is no evidence establishing that claim, and the premiere itself had been scheduled as an official charity engagement.
The deeper problem may be the fact that both sides appear to interpret the same events in completely different ways. What William and Catherine see as an ordinary public appearance can reportedly be viewed by the Sussex camp as a deliberate message.
Then there was another development that reportedly angered William: the publication of Charles Spencer's memoir, Swansong. Diana's brother reportedly included painful recollections concerning the period following her death and claims involving King Charles. Buckingham Palace did not directly confirm Spencer's account, instead emphasizing how grief can affect memory and judgment.
William is reportedly particularly sensitive to anything concerning his mother and the traumatic period surrounding her death. Harry, meanwhile, reportedly contacted Spencer before publication and asked whether anything in the book could embarrass him. Spencer said there was nothing of that nature and later indicated Harry was comfortable with the memoir. According to reports, that allegedly frustrated William further because he found it difficult to believe Harry had not discussed the book more extensively with their uncle.

The history between the brothers explains why reconciliation is so difficult. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry described a physical confrontation with William and claimed his brother had criticized Meghan. William has never publicly answered those allegations. Then came the Oprah interview, the Netflix documentary and years of increasingly distant communication.
Yet Harry has repeatedly expressed a desire for reconciliation. He has said publicly that he would like to repair relationships within his family, even while acknowledging that some relatives may never forgive him. King Charles, at least publicly, appears more willing to maintain contact, having spent time with Harry and Meghan during their visits.
William, however, appears to be taking a different approach.
The last major public moment involving all four came after Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022. William and Catherine unexpectedly walked outside Windsor Castle with Harry and Meghan, greeting members of the public and looking at flowers and messages left for the late Queen. For a brief moment, the four appeared united by grief.
Before that, their final appearance together as working royals had been the Commonwealth Day service in March 2020. It was Harry and Meghan's final official engagement as senior working royals, and the interaction between the couples appeared noticeably formal.

Years earlier, however, everything had looked completely different. In 2018, the four appeared together at a Royal Foundation event, and the media famously labelled them the “Fab Four,” presenting them as a powerful new generation for the monarchy.
Today, that image seems almost unrecognizable.
There are now several possible outcomes. Charles could potentially become the bridge between his sons, particularly if another family meeting takes place before Christmas. A shared Christmas gathering at Sandringham would be a significant indication that relations were improving.
Alternatively, nothing may change. William could continue keeping his distance while Harry and Meghan remain in Britain, living separate lives only a few hours apart.
The third possibility is that the Sussexes eventually decide Britain is not working for them and return permanently to California, where their Montecito home remains available.
For now, the most important point is that almost every dramatic claim about a royal summit comes from unnamed sources rather than direct statements from the family. William has not publicly accepted the proposed meeting. Catherine has not commented. Harry and Meghan have not confirmed the reports either.
The next important moments could be Remembrance Sunday and Christmas, when members of the royal family traditionally gather. If Harry and William are going to finally sit down together, those occasions could provide an opportunity.
