As the school term draws to a close, some much needed respite awaits for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louie following a difficult few months as their mother, Catherine, bravely continues her cancer treatments. Catherine initially had difficulty tolerating the chemotherapy treatments but doctors reported she was doing better by July.

"These are strong drugs that she's taking but she's tolerating them better and her condition is improving," said a source close to the family. "We've had reports from members of the public that she's been seen out and about with the children, which is a really positive sign."

After hearing her three kids worry about her health, Catherine feels terrible. "She doesn't want this period to be one that she and William's kids remember as a difficult time," the source continued. "So fun and carefree is how the Royal mom wants the rest of the summer to be for her beloved George, Charlotte and Louie."

It has been suggested that William and Catherine are aiming to have a quiet Summer and Autumn at their homes in the United Kingdom with their three children, forgoing any overseas trips. "I don't think Catherine will be feeling up to traveling that far," the insider said. "Plus, William wants to stay close to home with his wife. So I think it's going to be more about moving between their various Royal residences and not taking any breaks overseas."

The source added that the family is looking forward to spending time outdoors in nature. "It's going to be all about letting the kids just be kids and run around outside," they said. "More than ever, Catherine wants to make sure this is a summer for the children to remember. She's promised them there will be no bedtimes and lots of treats."

Middleton's brother James is also expected to pay visits with his dogs, so the children can play. Additionally, the kids have requested time to hike, bake, and participate in other activities without the structure of their normal school schedule.

Things are going to be more chaotic than usual, but sources say Catherine has been resting up in preparation. As the future Queen, she has understandably taken a step back from royal engagements this year, making only two public appearances at Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon in July. Her future appearances will depend on how she's feeling and on medical advice.

Like his wife, William seems to be enjoying spending more casual time at home with his family rather than being surrounded by staff and responsibilities. "They do spend a lot of time just the five of them by themselves and only involve staff when necessary jobs come up," the insider revealed. "That really differentiates them from other royals and shows how they want to keep their family core strong, before the burden of state duties falls more heavily on them."

As the school summer break begins this week, Prince William will no doubt also be breathing a sigh of relief. His birthday in June was marked by the release of a joyous new photograph showing him leaping happily with George, Charlotte and Louis over sand dunes in Norfolk, as Catherine lay nearby taking the photo on her camera.

Then in July, Princess Charlotte delighted football fans with her enthusiastic cheering and punching of the air as England progressed through to the final of the 2024 UEFA Euro championships in Berlin, defeating the Netherlands. William seems more relaxed and comfortable in his own skin than ever before. He's a passionate football fan, so seeing him celebrate was not unusual, but the pure passion he showed was striking.

While George and William were understandably heartbroken by England's final defeat to Spain, the Prince and Princess sent a gracious message of support to the England squad, saying their teamwork, grit and determination had inspired people of all ages. William has also been spotted in more casual, relaxed moments recently - like sharing a photo with George and Charlotte meeting singer Taylor Swift backstage at one of her concerts, and later showing off some lively "dad dancing" to her songs at the show.

As the summer break gets fully underway, it seems the Cambridges are determined to make the most of relaxed family time together after a stressful period. With overseas trips off the cards for now, quality time in the gardens and outdoors of their various UK homes looks set to provide just the respite everyone needs.
