Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's so-called royal tour of Colombia has become a spectacle of poor diplomacy and entitlement. Announced with much fanfare, this unofficial visit is purportedly being conducted at the invitation of Colombia's Vice President Francia Márquez but as the tour unfolds, it's becoming clear that the "diplomatic mission" is more about manipulating their royal image than genuine engagement.

Vice President Márquez announced the visit with grand statements, claiming the Duke and Duchess would be "gracing" Bogotá and other cities with their presence. Apparently, Colombia was chosen as the backdrop for Harry and Meghan's latest display of pseudo-royal duties following their previous stunt in Nigeria. However, not all are buying into the narrative of a goodwill tour.

Royal author and Meghan critic Angela Levin did not hold back in criticizing the decision to visit Colombia, especially given Harry's reluctance to return to the UK due to supposed safety concerns. According to Levin, Harry's complaints about security risks in Britain are laughable compared to traveling to Colombia, a country she deems dangerous and plagued by ransom demands.

Levin, who has long accused the Sussexes of trying to manipulate King Charles, highlighted the absurdity of their travel choices. She remarked that insisting on top-tier security is just an excuse for Harry's dislike of anything less than the best—a sentiment the Sussexes seem to have carried over to this Colombian trip.

Adding to the growing spectacle, rumors surfaced that the Colombian government rejected the Sussexes' request for five-star luxury accommodation, despite their apparent belief that status entitles them to utmost opulence. Authorities have opted to adhere to standard hospitality practices instead of the Sussexes' demands.

This refusal sent ripples through royal circles and ignited debate about the couple's expectations and disconnect from reality. Meghan, notorious for her designer wardrobe and use of private jets, is no stranger to lavish lifestyle controversies. This latest accommodation hiccup in Colombia merely underscores her perceived tone-deafness to struggles of everyday people.

As a working royal, Meghan frequently faced criticism for expensive fashion choices and air travel. These scandals fueled accusations of being out of touch with regular concerns. The unfolding hotel saga in Colombia serves as another glaring example of Meghan's ostentatious tendencies clashing with public expectations of the monarchy.

Speculation now abounds over how Harry and Meghan will react. Some believe they may cancel the trip rather than compromise on lodging. But others think they will begrudgingly accept the government's decision and try salvaging the visit with some grace.

Either way, this entire farcical episode has further highlighted the ongoing tensions between the Sussexes and public views of their status. As they continue navigating post-royal lives while clinging to a royal image, Harry and Meghan's extravagant lifestyle will likely attract more criticism that undermines their diplomatic goals.

Their Colombia tour has rapidly spun out of control, portraying them as entitled, disconnected from regular people's challenges, and manipulative of optics for self-promotion over genuine goodwill efforts. If they wish to rebuild reputations and forge meaningful roles, Harry and Meghan must reevaluate expectations and curb tendencies that widen divisions between themselves and those they aim to represent.
