Following a relaxing break with their grandfather King Charles at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Prince William and Princess Catherine of Wales were keen to get back to their royal duties in London. However, their top priority as always was their three young children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Like many other families across the country, the Wales children were among the millions of youngsters to return to their classrooms as the new term started at Lambrook School near Ascot. George, now 9 years old, started Year 7 while Charlotte, aged 7, began Year 5. Youngest brother Louis, who recently celebrated his 5th birthday, started Reception class in Year 2.

While William and Catherine typically make a public appearance every year as they drop their children off for their first day back, little is actually known about what school life is really like for the trio. One can only imagine trying to be a normal parent while also living life in the constant limelight of the British royal family. It must be incredibly frustrating at times, especially for William who is always keeping one eye on any public criticism of him or his family. However, above all else the future King seems to be handling it exceptionally well. For every critic out there, there are probably thousands more fans who admire the way he has conducted himself as a devoted father to his three children.

Recently, there have been reports that both Catherine and her father-in-law King Charles have been privately battling cancer in recent months. A high-level royal source told a media outlet that William has been going through "hell" behind palace walls as he supports both his wife and father through intensive cancer treatment. The reports state that Catherine has been dealing with hair loss and significant weight loss as a result of her treatment. As heir to the throne, William has been stepping up in every way possible to care for his family during this difficult time. He knows all too well what it is like to lose a parent at a young age.

While the road ahead remains uncertain, Catherine's tremendous courage and the love and support surrounding her from William, their children and people around the world offers a ray of hope. In a bid to protect their children, the couple have made the decision not to disclose the full extent of Catherine's illness. They want to ensure George, Charlotte and Louis remain shielded from the harsh realities of life for as long as they can at their young ages.

Both William and Catherine are dedicated to giving their children as normal an upbringing as possible, despite their royal status. However, they also need to consider their safety and security at all times. To achieve this delicate balance, they have opted to send George, Charlotte and Louis to Lambrook School, where they can receive both a top-tier education and protection. Unsurprisingly, this type of schooling comes at an enormous financial cost to the royal couple.

It is reported that William and Catherine will be paying around £104,000 annually to send all three children to Lambrook School. As with most private schools, tuition rates are tiered based on grade levels, meaning costs increase each year as the children progress up the school. While education is free for most children in the UK, it is understandable why security and privacy concerns mean William and Catherine deem private schooling an essential choice for their young family.

At Lambrook, George, Charlotte and Louis are simply known as George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales amongst their school friends and teachers - taking their mother's ancestral surname in recognition of Catherine becoming Princess of Wales following the Queen's death. This mirrors how William and Harry were also informally known by their father's title at school rather than using their royal titles.

There have been some rare glimpses into how the Wales children interact with others outside of their immediate family. During an interview with their podcast, American siblings and pop stars Jason and Travis Kelce recalled meeting William, George and Charlotte backstage at a Taylor Swift concert in London last year. Travis fondly remembered how "adorable" and smiley Charlotte was, while also praising William for being "fantastic" with the children. Small moments like this help give a sense of the children's charismatic personalities despite living much of their lives outside of the public eye.

In conclusion, while William and Catherine undoubtedly face huge challenges juggling their parenting duties with royal responsibilities, their priority always remains giving George, Charlotte and Louis as normal an upbringing possible. Sending them to Lambrook School is one important way to achieve this, despite the enormous financial costs. With the fully support of their family, the future looks bright for the growing Wales brood.
