It has been a turbulent few weeks for Meghan Markle as negative press stories about her treatment of staff have continued to emerge in high-profile American publications. Last month, The Hollywood Reporter published accounts from 12 former Palace aides describing Meghan as a "dictator" who reduced staff to tears with bullying behavior.

In an attempt to fight back, it was reportedly Meghan's idea to have favored outlet US Weekly run a story portraying her as the "nicest boss." However, this has spectacularly backfired as more and more people who have witnessed Meghan's behavior firsthand are now willing to speak out. Renowned royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell notes Meghan and her team clearly "thought they were employing assassins to shoot at her enemies" but the plan has "ended up shooting at her."

Most recently, The Daily Beast published accusations from a former Palace staffer who witnessed "psycho moments" where Meghan screamed at employees. They described her as a "narcissist" and "demon" when things don't go her way. According to sources, Meghan's rotten reputation within the Palace is well known and staff interactions with her routinely left people feeling "miserable."

Lady C suspects Meghan must realize by now that "the party is over" following the Hollywood Reporter story, as she's been said to be "bouncing off the walls with anxiety." After losing control of her carefully-crafted public image in the US, the strategic PR hits seem to only further damage Meghan's standing. Not only could her lucrative Netflix and Spotify deals now be in jeopardy, but former supporters in Hollywood like Ari Emanuel reportedly want to distance themselves.

Perhaps most tellingly, editor Dan Wakeford's defense of Meghan via US Weekly does more harm than good. He can only locate five staff willing to speak on the record, and their claims of Meghan being an amazing boss are vague and lacking in detail. Meanwhile, multiple sources have painted a very different picture to other outlets. As Lady C notes, Wakeford knows the truth about Meghan's behavior from his time editing People Magazine, where the Sussexes' attacks on Thomas Markle were orchestrated.

In the midst of this, Meghan skipped a charity event with Kevin Costner, claiming illness. However, as the party line about her victimhood has worn thin in America, avoiding public scrutiny was likely the savvier choice. Husband Harry too appears to be enjoying his solo New York trip about as much as being a working royal, suggesting the new "California lifestyle" does not come naturally.

While the quest to control free speech and silence criticism drives Harry's rhetoric on social media responsibility, the truth will out. As more former staffers and insiders feel empowered to share what they witnessed, it seems Meghan and Harry's attempts to manipulate the narrative have ultimately been their undoing. The façade is cracked, and now reality is catching up to a duo who appear to be rapidly losing friends in high places.
